More than 20 years after he last played pro basketball, former Lakers star Magic Johnson is ready for a whole new game: running his own TV network.
The Hall of Famer, who has become a successful business mogul, is preparing to launch Aspire, a 24-hour channel with a focus on what Johnson called positive, uplifting images of African Americans. The basic cable outlet will join other channels targeting black viewers, such as BET and TV One, and will offer opportunities for blacks who have struggled to find work in mainstream Hollywood.
"This is so exciting for me, I'm pinching myself," Johnson said in a phone interview. "This is big for myself, for the African American community and the African American creative community. I wanted a vehicle to show positive images and to have stories written, produced and directed by African Americans for our community. Aspire — that's how I've been leading my life."
Aspire's mix will include film, TV, music and comedy, with a combination of acquired projects and original programming. "There will some performing arts and shows about faith," Johnson said.

As odd as it might sound, XXL has revealed that the Colombian songstress has signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation for management. Joining the likes of Rihanna, No I.D., Santigold, S1 and Melanie Fiona.

According to the projected numbers from Hit Daily, which measures album sales on a weekly basis, there's a BIG possiblity that Adele will be selling 700,000 units this week. Granted, she just won 6 grammys in one to tie Beyonce's record and it's Valentine's Day this week as well, it's still a testament to the power of Adele ability to sell. Sadly, with recent news of her decision to step away from the music industry might make this the only album she'll have in 5 years, either way, she's a monster on the retail side of music.

With the NBA's March 15 trade deadline now less than a month away, Lakers forward Pau Gasol admits he's not sure if his future lies in Los Angeles.
"There's talks and rumors every day. Today I was reading it was Minnesota is really interested in trying to put a good package together," he said. "[Other teams are] calling, and it seems like things are just waiting for the right offer to come along, for [the Lakers] to pull the trigger."
Certainly Gasol has evidence of the team's willingness to move him. He was a major component of the controversial three-team trade in early December between the Lakers, New Orleans, and Houston that would have sent Gasol to the Rockets and Chris Paul to the Lakers.
Ultimately, the NBA, in its capacity as stewards of the league-owned Hornets, stepped in and vetoed the trade. Paul, an All-Star point guard, was soon dealt to the Los Angeles Clippers.

How can you have an All-Star Weekend without the biggest story of the NBA season?
That is a question the league is asking and it looks as if Jeremy Lin will make it to Orlando next weekend. According to a source, the NBA is hoping to add Lin to its All-Star lineup by having him participate in the Haier Shooting Stars competition during All-Star Saturday night. The competition features one current NBA player, one current WNBA player and one TNT on-air talent and legend on each team.
Lin would be the obvious choice, especially since he has become an overnight sensation. He is 5-0 as a starter and the Knicks have won six straight games since Lin became the full-time point guard out of necessity. Lin's biggest moment came on Tuesday when his last second 3-pointer lifted the Knicks to a 90-87 victory over the Toronto Raptors.
